Control Room
Dimensions: 36m2
The control room has been designed by acoustician Kevin van Green (greenandgreenaudio.co.uk) as a no-compromise listening environment.
The room construction features floating walls, floor and ceiling. The dimensions and angles of the walls and ceiling have been chosen to reduce unwanted resonances and reflections.
What you hear is a true, accurate reproduction of what you have on tape. This means you can be confident about what you’re hearing, and this in turn means you can take chances and push boundaries – which, after all, is the whole purpose of a great control room!
The focal point of the room is our vintage Decca valve recording console. Rebuilt in 2008, it is totally unique and is a huge part of the studio’s sound.
Complementing the Decca is a modern Solid State Logic AWS 900+. Chosen specifically for its short signal path, the SSL is the perfect complement to the Decca: providing a pristine audio path, great monitoring facilities, automation and total recall.
Monitoring is provided by Unity Audio Boulders and a Focal Sub. We are wired for 5.1, and this can be arranged if requested at the time of booking.
The Pro Tools system and multitrack tape machines are all housed in the machine room.
Outboard includes lots of standard gear plus some really special tools, among them a prototype 7-band Decca EQ from the 1960s, Binson echorec, and EAR valve limiters and mastering EQs and a wonderful 1950s EMT reverb plate.
Our mix-down deck is a Studer C37 valve 1/2”.
On the practical side the control room is air conditioned and features tie lines to every part of the building, including some nice touches for guitarists and bass players with the inclusion of high-quality speaker cable running through to the live room, booth and lounge, allowing overdubs to take place in the control room.
We also have plenty of spare inputs for visiting producers and engineers to bring their favorite tools.
